Our activities
Center of Hydrometeorological Service at the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzhydromet) is the official body, responsible for implementation of UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Uzbekistan in accordance with Decree ¹ 183 of Cabinet of Ministers of Republic of Uzbekistan from April, 14, 2004.
According to climate change Uzhydromet conducts the following activities:
- providing data on climate change
- climate monitoring and development of climate change scenarios
- estimation of natural-climatic resources vulnerability to climate change impacts
- providing data for development of adaptation measures
- fulfillment of International obligations on UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and supporting of national interests by participation in programs and international activities
Uzhydromet’s first step to the fulfillment of obligations on UN Framework Convention on Climate Change was the preparation of the Initial National Communication of Republic of Uzbekistan on Climate Change in 1997-1999 according to the project of GEF/UNDP “Uzbekistan – Country study on climate change”, which includes study of national conditions, national GHG inventory, assumption of GHG emissions to the year 2010, climate change mitigation options, vulnerability estimates and the ways of adaptation to the climate change in Uzbekistan.
In the year 2001 Uzhydromet completed the Phase II of the Initial National Communication, as the result of technological needs assessment in priority national economics sectors in the field of GHG emission reduce and decrease of climate change negative consequences were determined, possibilities of technology use were studied, estimation and analysis of technological projects on GHG reduce, additional researches on vulnerability estimation and development of adaptation measures to the climate change, also on strengthening of regional monitoring system and capacity building for the participation at Global Observation Climate System were done.
As the support to fulfillment of the UNFCCC Article 6 in Uzbekistan, Uzhydromet has been carrying out UNEP Project on education, training and public awareness on climate change problem since the year 2004.
Uzhydromet have started preparation of the Second National Communication of Republic of Uzbekistan on climate change since 2005.
